About U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services-Office of LegislationThe Office of
Legislation (OL) in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is
a high-visibility office located in Washington, DC that works
directly with Congress and oversight agencies on areas related to
all CMS programs. OL has a unique view across the Agency into all
key CMS priorities and initiatives. CMS works in partnership with
the entire health care community to improve quality and efficiency
in an evolving health care system. CMS programs provide health care
coverage to more than 100 million Americans through Medicare,
Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the
Health Insurance Exchanges. OL is a fast-paced work environment
that requires close collaboration with both senior CMS and HHS
officials, key Congressional staff, and oversight agencies such as
the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Office of Inspector
General (OIG). OL has an opening for a health analyst position at
the GS-9 level, with promotion potential.OL analysts will gain:
- Enhanced knowledge and experience in multiple aspects of
various CMS programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and
private insurance.
- Interaction with oversight agencies and CMS officials across
the Agency.
- Experience related to the Agency's efforts to respond to
oversight agency inquiries.
- Opportunity to further develop communication and analytic
skills.DutiesTasks may include:
- Serving as a liaison, including coordinating and responding to
time sensitive requests from oversight agencies, including the GAO
and OIG.
- Reviewing and analyzing materials related to Medicare,
Medicaid, Program Integrity or private insurance to provide to
oversight agencies.
- Tracking and prioritizing multiple and time-sensitive requests
from oversight agencies and reporting out on related Agency
activities to CMS staff and leadership.
- Drafting materials, including formal agency responses to GAO
and OIG reports as well as responses to requests, to provide to
oversight agencies.
- Preparing summaries and background information for meetings,
briefings, and various notifications.
- Scheduling and facilitating meetings and briefings with CMS
staff, oversight agencies, and other parties.
- Assisting in preparing senior Agency officials for meetings
with oversight agencies as well as Congressional hearings.
- Other time sensitive activities including controlling
Congressional correspondence and oversight requests.Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Background or interest in health insurance programs, including
Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP or private insurance.Application
