O'Melveny has an immediate opening for an Attorney Recruiting and Development Manager who will direct associate attorney recruiting efforts for the Washington DC office and support the office's professional development efforts for its junior associates. The DC Attorney Recruiting and Development Manager reports to the Director of Attorney Recruiting, and works closely with the Director of Attorney Professional Development and other firmwide talent development leaders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the law school student recruiting process, including developing strategic outreach and communications with targeted law schools in the Washington DC market, and the organization of the law student interviews and recruiting efforts.
  • Plan and coordinate the summer associate program and events for the Washington DC office.
  • Work closely with the Director of Attorney Recruiting and the local hiring partner and office head to manage the recruitment of lateral attorneys and judicial clerks to meet the Firm's strategic objectives and practice needs.
  • Understand and manage the annual attorney recruiting and development budget for the DC office.
  • Promote the office culture and positively impact the attorney experience through customized engagement and involvement in office-based connectivity events.
  • Build awareness, understanding, and support for the Firm's talent development programs and initiatives. Collaborating with the firm's Attorney Professional Development team, this role will:
    • Conduct onboarding and new hire orientation for Washington DC associates.
    • Organize local mentoring programs and develop integration tools to foster a positive office experience.
    • Oversee the junior associate experience through professional development efforts (e.g., supporting the annual review process, monitoring utilization and work allocation in conjunction with the firmwide staffing team, conducting exit interviews). Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
      • A minimum of 5 years of experience serving in professional recruiting or career development positions with sophisticated law firm or professional services organizations.
      • A Bachelor's degree is required.
      • Experience with all aspects of the attorney recruitment process, including outreach efforts, recruiting, onboarding and integration processes.
      • Executive presence, tenacity, integrity, and professionalism that will engender confidence with attorneys, administrative leadership, and prospective candidates.
      • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a consensus-driven organization and to create consensus-based support.
      • An unquestioned work ethic, willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and accept a wide variety of assignments as required and work closely with law students, associates, partners, colleagues and team members.
      • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
      • Proven experience with the ability to retain, develop and motivate exceptional talent development professionals.
      • Outstanding relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate equally well with senior administrative managers and staff, partners and associates across the Firm.
